Blog Post Assignment 27th of Feb. 2012
Personally, I love the "paying it forward" concept, it is superb. I believe that the concept works, for example, when Trevor plans out his 3 acts of favors, one of the three people fail leaving only two left. If those two were to succeed then they will have multiplied into 6 people doing favors and so on, the chances of it succeeding begin to increase each time. I attempt to "pay it forward" every single day, anything as small as a smile to a stranger to an act of kindness. "[P]aying it forward" gives me a nice, warm feeling that I may have brightened up someone's day simple by spreading positivity and smiles.

19th of February 2012 Blog Prompt
Rex Walls:
Rex Walls' two strongest points are numbers 4) autonomy and independence and 5) education and learning. Rex Walls is not considered a good parent, however, he had his moments in which he showed the capability of being a good parent. Throughout his life, Rex showed his children that they must be self-sufficient and self-reliance; for example, "If you don't want to sink, you better figure out how to swim." (p.66) Rex made sure to teach his children things he believed were important and useful, such as mathematics, how to tap Morse code and how to fire a pistol.
Rex Walls' two weakest points are numbers 3) relationship skills and 10) safety. I have heard that children develop their relationship skills based on their parents'. Throughout the novel, Rex lacked the ability to hold a decent relationship with anyone. He would constantly get into arguments with his wife and children. Rex seemed to be overconfident that his children were able to take care of them-selves. For example, he took Jeannette to a bar and allowed for an intoxicated man to take Jeannette upstairs to his apartment.
Rose Mary:
Rose Mary's two strongest points are numbers 4) autonomy and independence and 5) education and learning. Throughout the entire novel, Rose Mary attempts to show her children that they must not rely on anyone or anything, that they must be independent. Instead of enrolling Jeannette and her siblings into school, Rose Mary taught her children literature, reading books without pictures.
Rose Mary's two weakest points are numbers 3) relationship skills and 10) safety. Rose Mary had dysfunctional relationships with everyone, her husband and her mother. Constantly getting into arguments and behaving like a child. Rose Mary did not seem concerned for her children's safety, when Jeannette told her that Uncle Stanley was behaving inappropriately by putting his hand up her skirt, Rose Mary simply told Jeannette that she must have been imagining it.
